My IP Address begins with 169. How do I fix this?

Oftentimes when users have PCs or laptops, they default to using the Wi-Fi adapter with an IP address begins with 169.254.x.x (or something similar).  But it always begins with '169'.

What you need to do is disable Wi-Fi and set your PCs Ethernet IP Address manually.  Here are the steps to do this.
  1. Right Click the Windows Start button
  2. Click Network Connections
  3. On the Network Settings screen - click Ethernet
  4. Click 'Change adapter options'
  5. Right-click on Wi-Fi and click 'Disable'
  6. Right-click Ethernet and select Properties to bring up Ethernet Properties
  7. Click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
  8. Click Properties - to bring up the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties dialog box.
  9. Click Use the following IP address
  10. For IP Address enter:  192.168.1.11  (or whatever IP address your IT Admin gives you)
  11. For Subnet mask enter:  255.255.255.0  (unless your IT Admin tells you differently)
  12. For Default gateway enter:  192.168.1.1 (unless your IT Admin tells you differently)
  13. Click OK
  14. Click Close on the Ethernet Properties dialog box.
